KK-Access Podcast Episode #5: Libraries for Nothing,NKS News, Free NKS Presets from Andre, & Heavyocity Psychosis Review (AI Generated may contain some errors!)

Pip: KK-ACCESS — where the question is never "what's new in music software" but rather "what's new and accessible, and ideally free."

Mara: chrisankin has been busy — covering everything from a bumper crop of free sample libraries, to NKS preset developments, to a full review of a horror-scoring instrument that arrived right on time for Halloween.

Pip: Let's start with the freebies, then — because there are rather a lot of them.

Free Sounds For The Taking

Mara: The anchor here is UVI Prisma from Lute Audio — a compilation library running in the free UVI Workstation, and it covers the cost question directly: "there are no obvious cut off dates for the offer, but do act quickly if you wish to secure a copy."

Pip: So: free, large, and time-sensitive in a vague, slightly nerve-wracking way. The only actual cost is around $14.99 Australian for an NKS preset pack from Freelance Soundlabs, if you want Prisma working inside Komplete Kontrol.

Mara: The setup does involve accounts at Lute Audio, Pace iLok, and UVI — so there are a few steps. But the library itself runs to 1,151 presets and roughly 14GB of content, which is considerable for nothing.

Pip: Elsewhere, Fracture Sounds have released a free Blueprint taster of their Alternate Woodwind Soloists library — a 2.5GB NKS-compatible Kontakt Player library featuring a single ensemble patch with all four instruments from the full commercial product. Newsletter subscribers get it automatically.

Mara: Vochlea are giving away Native Instruments Empire Breaks — a Play Series library for Kontakt Player — in exchange for an email address, via a pop-up on their main site. Strezov Sampling have also quietly dropped a free Solo Cello Sul Tasto library, again Kontakt Player with NKS support.

Pip: And Sonuscore have released The Score Elements, a free edition of their cinematic scoring instrument built on the same Story engine as the full product — thirteen Stories, over forty instruments, and a fully editable engine.

Mara: That is a meaningful amount of free content landing in a short window. Worth checking each product page promptly, particularly for anything without a stated end date.

Pip: From free libraries to the infrastructure that makes them useful in Komplete Kontrol — the NKS layer.

NKS Presets And Support

Mara: The Freelance Soundlabs November newsletter covers new NKS libraries for Cherry Audio Pentaphonic Synth, and several Dawesome instruments — Abyss 2, Chop Suey, Myth, and Zyklop — each with full tagging, sound previews, and controller maps.

Pip: The Dawesome Myth entry is particularly detailed — eighteen pages of global controls, plus per-preset modular mappings. That is a lot of pages, even by the standards of people who enjoy pages.

Mara: The newsletter also notes an updated Falcon 2027 library, adding 140 presets and bringing the total to over 3,100 custom presets with dedicated macro controls. Andre Louis is also contributing through the ONJ Music NKS Presets project — an ever-expanding Dropbox collection of community NKS presets built using AI-assisted coding.

Pip: And Rob Papen Quad 2 NKS support is confirmed as in progress — including ARP step controls for on/off, tuning, velocity, and free settings per step. Useful for anyone who wants to do more than just trigger scales.

Mara: From preset support to the instruments themselves — specifically one built entirely for dark, unsettling atmospheres.

Heavyocity Psychosis Reviewed

Pip: Heavyocity's Psychosis is a horror-scoring library, and the review is candid that the timing was deliberate — landing just before Halloween, which is either impeccable planning or a very good coincidence.

Mara: The review describes what the library contains directly: "Psychosis is quite literally packed from the cellar to the attic with creepy atmospheric instruments, stings, jump scares, instant cues, rhythmic oddities, and spooky textures, that are sure to embellish any projects that demand any sort of unearthly, eerie, or other such unsettling material."

Pip: In practical terms: 720 sample sources, 332 Kontakt snapshot presets across two master NKI files — the Psychosis Designer for building and tweaking patches, and the Menu for pre-constructed cues, rhythms, and textures spread across the keyboard.

Mara: The NKS mapping is detailed in the review — nine pages of controls in Classic View covering macros, mixer, Punish and Filter, EQ, Compressor, Modulation, Delay, and Reverb. The MK3 extended view adds per-channel Pan and Tune, though it drops the Randomise, Drift, Scatter, and X/Y controls.

Pip: On accessibility — which is the site's primary lens — the review is measured. Some interface elements remain inaccessible via NKS or screen readers, but the preset collection and macro pre-assignments provide a workable path. There is also a discovered technique using OCR to activate the Expand to Keys function, which spreads a single Menu sound across the full keyboard range.

Mara: The review also touches on GForce giving away two synths — Axxess and M-Tron Select — with NKS presets already available for Axxess via Freelance Soundlabs. And Plughugger's The Coil 2 for Omnisphere 3 arrives with NKS support built in from launch, built around recordings of a Tesla Coil run through Omnisphere 3's Oberheim filters.

Pip: Psychosis is priced at $329 for a limited period, down from $399, with an additional $50 off for owners of Damage 2, Symphonic Destruction, Gravity, or Gravity 2. That offer closed 4th November 2026.

Mara: The through-line across all of this is the same question the site always asks — what can actually be used, and how fully, by blind and visually impaired musicians working in Komplete Kontrol.

Pip: Free libraries, expanding NKS coverage, and a horror instrument reviewed from the inside — not a quiet few weeks on the accessibility front.

Mara: More to come, no doubt. Until next time.
