GP08 Vocalise 3 By Heavyocity
When Heavyocity first introduced their Gravity Pack series now almost seven years ago, there were two in particular that immediately stood out and caught the attention of many media composers.
These were GP02 Vocalise 1, followed soon afterwards by GP04 Vocalise 2.
GP02 was Heavyocity’s first excursion into the world of vocal samples, and the second offering added yet more content, and focused a little more on the rhythmic phrase material.
Recorded at Heavyocity’s own New York studio facility, Vocalise 3 again builds further on the first two products, with an all new collection of phrases and even some male voicing’s.
Vocalise 3 runs in Kontakt 6.7 full version or the equivalent free Kontakt player, and is Komplete Kontrol compatible.
The library will occupy 4.7GB of disk space, with it’s NCW lossless format samples being compressed from the original 7GB.
There are 190 Kontakt NKI files which provide the preset source for the library content. Rather than there being a combination between NKI & the NKSN snapshots we saw in the previous two editions.
Download & Installation
Download is achieved after serial registration within the Heavyocity portal, which is mostly accessible for screen readers.
Further authorisation is necessary via Native Access along with confirmation of your installation location.
Komplete Kontrol will add Vocalise 3 to your Komplete Kontrol database upon the next launch and auto re scan.

Accessibility
The NKS parameter mapping template for Vocalise 3 remains unchanged from it's predecessors, so any hopes for any updated improvements will unfortunately not be found on this occasion.

The basics remain in place, so we can still make some reasonable adjustments such as tweaking FX and in certain presets being able to mix between the three sound channels.
Access to the more advanced modulation and sequencing are out of bounds with the limitations of NKS, and elements like ADSR, Sample Offset & Channel tuning controls still remain an accessibility update dream for the for seeable future.
Although there are no changes to the interface for Vocalise 3, there is some nice new content to discover and explore, with worthy new material in the Melodic Phrases, Intervals, Rhythmic Pedals, Scapes & Drones & Vowels, which all have their own separate banks.
Carla & Kristin are the principal female vocalists used within Vocalise 3, and on this outing we also see the introduction of a male voice which works in a more subtle and complimentary capacity as a separate preset, and can be used to underpin or add a further texture in tandem with the female voicing’s.

Presets

Heavyocity have not been quite so imaginative in their naming of the sound design presets within GP08, Soundscapes & Drones are labelled simply as that with an identifying number suffix.
The content still retains it’s usual high degree of cinematic potential, and I really liked the addition of including breathy and whispered versions of vocal phrases, these add some nice creepiness & gravitas to the Latin style phrases which could work very well for a ghostly supernatural score.
Heavyocity have included keyswitches starting at F6, for the triggering of FX on a switchable basis. The values of these of which can be tweaked on the TFX (Trigger FX) pages of the NKS mapping.
There are a selection offered here that include Bitcrush, Phaser, Modulated Panning & Delay, and these can work well to add a little momentary variation to the proceedings.
Where some of the presets have single samples assigned to their own key on your keyboard, there is an area that can be used to control the pitch of these via your controller triggered via keyswitches.
These notes are not polyphonic, so chords for single samples are not an option. Instead you are able to hold down multiple individually assigned samples and control their pitch, and this does provide you with lots of layering options.
One of the major strong points of GP04 Vocalise 2 was the rich content of rhythmic vocal phrases, which come in straight and triple time meters as well as combi’s.
Depending on how you choose to use them, these can allow you to create more complex polyrhythmic type patterns.
GP08 Vocalise 3 builds upon this with plenty of new material, which may not introduce any radically new concepts, but instead restocks the musical larder for existing Vocalise owners who are perhaps by now craving some new material to work with.
Stacks & Combi’s
Both the Stack & Combi presets include additional NKS control for each of the three sample sound channels.
Offering level, pan, filter, on/off, filter cut-off & resonance.
Although we may not have access to sample tuning via NKS, having the mix levels and filters on hand does afford some creative potential, muting one or two layers and altering the filter to make the sound more sparse, or adding another rhythmic preset in combination with another can allow you to extend the poss abilities beyond the scope of the initially loaded preset.
GP08 Vocalise 3 is a welcome addition to the high standards already set by it’s predecessors.
If you already own and enjoy using those, then Vocalise 3 will add more than a splash of new colour to your sonic paint palette.
If you do not currently own either of the previous titles in the series, then GP08 can happily exist in it’s own universe within your sample collection, as it does offer enough variation and elements of the first two releases to work as an entity in it’s own space.
As with all Heavyocity releases, the sound quality is superb, well recorded and modern sounding requiring little or no additional processing.
Musically it will work perfectly for film, game & ambient music tracks with a style and mood that can viably be supernatural and scary one moment, and then capably be providing the backdrop for some chilled out & ambient world music the next.
GP08 Vocalise 3 By Heavyocity will be available from August 9th from the Heavyocity Website for $99 (reg. $119). Offer ends August 22, 2022.
